etailPR Top 10 Blogger Tips: Guest Blog Post from an Etail PR intern

Hi I'm Katie! It’s my first day interning at etailPR and as a blogger my self (What Katie Says), I’m relishing the opportunity to get stuck right in and create a guest post! This fabulous blogger network is continually growing and with that, comes new bloggers every single day. I mean, who wouldn’t want to become a blogger? The opportunities are endless and 100% fits in with the quote ‘work hard, play hard.’ However some bloggers, new or old, need some advice along the way, which is why we here at etailPR want to give you the helping hand you might need.

Here are my top 10 blogging tips:

1. Create your own voice
Blogging is your own corner of the Internet with nobody to tell you how you should or shouldn’t write. Always let your personality shine through with your posts and it will help your readers connect with you! Don’t be afraid to write in a chatty tone and don’t feel like you should copy someone else’s style.

2. Get social network savvy
There’s no doubt some of you know social networking like the back of your hand, yet I’m sure some of you are still asking yourself ‘What’s a hashtag?!’ (You may be living under a rock). As a blogger, you need to be a pro. Follow your favourite bloggers on all social media platforms, talk with other bloggers, swap posts to read, upload pictures that fit with the style of your blog, and always continue your tone of voice across all platforms! Use the hashtags #blogger #fblogger #bblogger to attract readers. You will be surprised at how quickly your following and readership increases once you’ve nailed social networking!

3. Picture perfect
It’s a proven fact that we have short attention spans. The use of pictures can help to entice readers to your blog post. Don’t scare them away with an overwhelming amount of text with just a tiny picture at the bottom. Put photos at the top of a post to then continue through out, make them big and clear and don’t be afraid to play around with some editing. My favourite blogs have a theme to their pictures, so find a niche for yours. You don’t need a fancy camera; just good lighting will make a photo blog-worthy! Tag your photos with relevant tags as well; this will increase your SEO.

4. Creative content
There are thousands of blogs in the blogosphere, so keep your content creative. Always keep an eye out for inspiration for new blog posts that haven’t been done before! If you ever get stuck, put a new spin on it. Why not ‘What’s in my gym bag’ as apposed to a usual ‘What’s in my bag’ post. Keep thinking outside of the box and it will make readers want to read your's over everyone else’s!

5. Stick to a schedule
This keeps readers excited. You don’t have to blog everyday, once a week or even a fortnight can be enough! Just make sure to always publish your post on the same day at the same time. This can be easily done by scheduling your post rather than publishing straight away. You can then count down on social networking, so followers get excited about reading your new posts, and can get in a routine of checking your blog, say on a Friday evening. Post tweets such as: ‘Can’t wait to hear what you all think of this weeks blog post! It’s going live tomorrow!’

6. Clear layout, clear mind
A simple layout creates more attention to your blog post. A bold title at the top and white background behind font makes it easier to read and makes photos stand out. Don’t be afraid to put your personality out through your design.

7. Be honest
Once you get a certain amount of followers, you will start to receive some sample post opportunities. Like the ones we offer here at etailPR! (Take a look at our network here). Always be honest with what you’re writing, if you say you love something, your readers want to be able to trust your opinion. Don’t let them waste their money on something just because you wanted more free stuff!

8. Get linking
Always provide a link to products you have mentioned. This makes it a so much easier for readers to locate the products/items you are referring to! As well as this, link to other posts of yours to keep readers on your blog as long as possible.

9. Avoid negativity
No one wants to read a really negative blog, so avoid writing too many bad reviews. Whilst of course you have to be honest, maybe think about avoiding a review at all, rather than moaning. This may stop brands wanting to work with you in the future.

10. Enjoy blogging!
Blogging can be so much fun, don’t get caught up under the pressure. Keep calm and blog on. Always remember why you started in the first place!

I hope these tips have helped! If you have any more you’ve picked up on the way don’t be afraid to let us know!

Thanks for reading!

To celebrate the launch of SAMPLES going LIVE on etailPR Blogger Network today, we are giving YOU the chance to WIN a pair of brand new hair straighteners from the BOMBAY HAIR Gold Collection!

Okay, okay! We can hear you screaming, HOW DO I WIN?!?
Well, listen up! It's super simple!

In order to enter the competition, head to our Twitter now!

Between 1:30 and 15:00 GMT today - 26/06/15 -  simply apply for @etailPR samples and RT the giveaway tweet to enter and we will be giving away a £90 prize from @BombayHair to one lucky winner!

The Blogger Network team here at etailPR have decided to host a flash giveaway for all of our bloggers which apply for July Samples!

What are Sample Campaigns?
We at etailPR Blogger Network organise Sample Campaigns for them, where we give away free samples to bloggers who then feature them in blog posts.

My sample request hasn’t been accepted or decline should I re-choose?
Nope. Once you have entered your three choices you just have to wait. We process over 500 monthly samples in 5 days, so I can take time to receive your accepted/declined email. Re-choosing will just make the process take longer.

Why did I get declined from the campaign?
Unfortunately not all our bloggers can make it on to every campaign. There are many reasons blogger may be declined from campaigns:

• Low stats – our campaigns require 500 -2000+ followers (depending on brand)

• Photography quality was not high enough
• Not fashion focused
• Incorrect location – as not all our brands ship worldwide, some bloggers are declined from campaigns because of their location.
• Blogger’s style didn’t suit the brands
• Incomplete blogger profile – no postcode, no address, no telephone number.

I was accepted on to the campaign, but my sample request of declined?
Being accepted onto a campaign does not guarantee your sample requests will be approved. Sample requests can be declined if:
-Too many bloggers have requested the same item - The brand has reached its gifting quota for this sample session. - Blogger’s style didn’t suit the brands - Incorrect location – as not all our brands ship worldwide, some bloggers are declined from campaigns because of their location. - Low stats – our campaigns require 500 -2000 followers (depending on brand) - Photography quality was not high enough
If you have been unsuccessful this time, don’t worry, we advise bloggers enter our competitions to get noticed by our brands

Why is it only once a month campaigns?
As a way for us to offer more exciting opportunities for our bloggers such as giveaways and competitions, we are now doing sample campaigns at the start of every month. Dates for July have not been confirmed.
I missed the deadline can I choose now for next month.
Sorry but no. The stock that appears in the sample selection changes just before the campaign goes live to the latest stock. All requests made before the campaign goes

The winner will be announced shortly after the competition closes, so stay tuned on Twitter!

Plus Sized Wars: etailPR Blogger Network Analyses the Debate

In case you missed it, last week Channel 4 showed a documentary on Tuesday night called Plus Sized Wars. The purpose of the documentary was to explore the progressing market for plus sized fashion in the UK. Since the programme was aired, the internet has been buzzing with debate and here at the etailPR Blogger Network we have also been discussing the plus size debate.

Channel 4

The programme, which is still available to watch on 4od if you did miss it, explored three sides of fashion: fashion brands, bloggers and modelling agencies. It showed the ways in which the industry is adapting to the demand for larger and more fashionable clothing on the high-street.

Part of this debate discussed the prevalence of bloggers in the retail industry - something that we know a lot here at etailPR! It presented the facts of bloggers huge influence by introducing three of the UK's top plus size bloggers:

Georgina Horne
54.5k on Instagram

@fullerfigurefullerbust / Instagram
Callie Thorpe
52k on Instagram

@calliethorpe / Instagram
Danielle Vanier
27.4k on Instagram

@daniellevanier / Instagram

All of these girls are just like our bloggers on the etailPR Blogger Network - they work hard to talk about their passion for clothes and to promote brands whilst remaining fashionable and on trend. The documentary revealed though, that it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to find on-trend clothing in the sizes that they need.

This is where the brands step in!! The documentary featured three brands: Evans, Yours, and Austrailian based brand Taking Shape. Each brand was taking a different approach to marketing their products, aiming them at the younger generations in light of 60% of UK teenagers being overweight.

Evans (part of the supergroup, Arcadia) was in the process of changing radically. Known as a brand that cater for plus sizes, the company had a dowdy, old-fashioned reputation that they are shaking off in replacement of a younger, fresher vibe. Their SS15 collection has been hailed for being fashion forward and reflecting a similar brand image to other brands in the Arcadia family like Topshop and Dorothy Perkins.

Yours Clothing, owned by Andrew Killingsworth, admitted he was making decisions that would be beneficial to his business and that would make money, thus responding to the demand for larger sizes. Yours recently increased the sizes that they stock up to a 24.

We asked some of you for your opinions on the issues raised in the documentary itself and here are some of your responses:

@FossyMeade said that it was 'about time' that something sparked the plus size debate. He followed with 'Stop body shaming girls and love yourself for what you are.'
We loved this response as it tells all women (and men!) of all shapes and sizes to love what they are.

@ldweedon from LDWBLONDEATHEART tweeted us to say that he 'really enjoyed it' and that he thought @TomTomSkid (Tom Doran, Fashion PR for Evans) spoke very well on the subject.

@LauraHadleyx spoke our minds when she states that 'beauty comes in all shapes and sizes'. She said that she doesn't expect to be told how to live her life so she doesn't tell others how to live theirs - what a great motto!

The provocative programme has sparked a debate that has also crossed the channels and ended up on ITV's daytime women's chat show, Loose Women, where pop-star Jamelia has found herself the centre of heated criticism and inspired the hashtag #WeAreTheThey.

On the late morning show, all four women discussed the question : Is the developing plus size market for teenagers and young women 'responding to a demand? or is it normalising being fat and encouraging young girls to stay that way?' After Ruth had proposed the question to all of the ladies a discussion ensued.

Now, what you may have read on Twitter and on the gossip websites is that Jamelia said that clothes should not be made for plus-sizes or fat people and that fat people should be uncomfortable. We took a look at the episode of Loose Women in question to find out the truth. This is what was said:

JAMELIA 'Huge proportions of teenagers are well over the weight they should be. I am all for celebrating people as they are. I think everyone has the right to be comfortable in their own skin. I think everyone should have access to lovely clothes. But, I do not think it's right to facilitate people living an unhealthy lifestyle - I really don't'

RUTH 'Then what do you do? Do you have a cut off and say "Right Size 18 and after that we're not going to make any nice clothes for you?'

JAMELIA 'In the same way that I don't believe that a Size 0 should be available. It's not an healthy size for an average woman to be. In high street stores you are catering for the average woman. There should be a healthy range and I don't believe they should be providing clothes for below that range or above that range. I'm not saying that NO WHERE should, I believe that yes, have specialist shops, but I do think that you should feel uncomfortable if you are unhealthy.'

It is the final sentence that may have got Jamelia into a spot of trouble! Her comments have led to the trending hashtag #WeAreTheThey.

The debate on Loose Women is certainly worth a watch as it introduces the idea of health. What sizes can be defined as healthy or unhealthy?

In the wake of this, Protein World have also been caught up in a scandal where their Underground campaign in London came under fire with some severe criticism with its influence on body perceptions. The ad asks 'Are you beach body ready?' with an image of a woman.

Critics have responded saying things like 'Yes because I have a body that can go to beaches'. A spoof reply by Dove on Twitter reflects their recent ad campaign for beauty.

It seems at this point that this is THE debate of the moment. Brands are all weighing in on the matter and the debates main playground is Twitter.

So, when we asked for your opinions on Twitter, we loved that your responses were so positive and spoke about celebrating all women and all bodies.

Here at etailPR we believe that all women and men should support one another to believe that all shapes and sizes are beautiful. What better way to show you this through one of our great brands who clearly believes this too. We have Chi Chi London on the blogger network who have some of the most amazing dress available in sizes 4-24. They have a special Petite range perfect for the short but sweet girls out there AND Their Chi Chi Curve range makes sure all you luscious curvy ladies have the chance to look fabulous too!
